Most sales training in this industry is built for one type of person: extroverted, always “on.”
It works… for the people it’s built for.
Producers who don’t fit that mold spend years trying to force themselves into it. They watch the top performer in the office work a room and think they need to work a room the same way. So they try.
It rarely sticks, and it shouldn’t.
Trying to sell like someone else is like trying to swing a golf club like Tiger Woods. Your body isn’t built like his. Your rhythm isn’t his rhythm. Copying his mechanics won’t get you his results.
And there’s a related habit worth naming: downplaying success. A producer lands a six-figure win and calls it “a lucky year” instead of owning the work behind it. Letting go of that habit isn’t arrogance. It’s honesty. Celebrate your wins!
Sell the Way You’re Built
The producers who last aren’t the ones who mastered someone else’s swing. They’re the ones who found their own and stopped apologizing for it.
Try This This Week
- Notice one moment when you downplay a win, and correct it out loud.
- Write down the sales habit you’ve been forcing that doesn’t fit how you naturally operate.
- Replace it with one small action that matches how you naturally sell, not someone else’s method.
