I spent years in this industry watching people chase the wrong thing.
They’d hit their sales targets, build massive books of business, and get the recognition and the awards, all while being completely miserable.
I saw it at every conference I went to. People flexing about their production numbers while completely neglecting themselves. Drinking too much. Eating like garbage. Not working out. Not sleeping. Chasing the next deal while their health was falling apart.
The insurance industry has a low barrier to entry. Pass an exam, get licensed, and you’re in. That’s not inherently bad, but it creates a culture where money becomes the only scoreboard that matters.
After one particularly rough event, I made myself a promise. I was going to build something different. A place where we’d help insurance professionals grow their business while also helping them take care of themselves.
Here’s what I’ve learned. You can chase everything else in your life, but the moment a health issue hits, you only have one priority. Nothing else matters when your health is gone, so why wait until then?
My wife Amy and I invest heavily in our health every month. If people saw what we spent on wellness, they’d probably think we’re crazy, but without our health, we have nothing. I guarantee you, there are people spending that same amount on fast food and alcohol that’s actively hurting them.
I’m not saying you can’t have fun or that you need to be perfect. I am saying that if you’re building a business while destroying yourself in the process, you’re doing it wrong.
I hosted a two-day retreat this past summer with a handful of clients. We did some business masterminding, but we also spent serious time on physical activity. We went through what I call the Life Balance Sheet, which measures all areas of life, not just the business side. It was eye-opening for everyone involved, including me.
I realized this is what’s missing in our industry. We’ve got plenty of people teaching you how to sell more insurance, but who’s teaching you how to actually enjoy the life you’re working so hard to build?
At Complete Game Consulting, our mission isn’t just to help you hit your revenue goals. It’s to help you reach your full potential in every area of your life.
You can’t show up as the version of yourself your clients, your team, and your family deserve if your mindset is in the gutter.
YOUR NEXT STEPS
Get honest. Are you taking care of yourself, or are you running yourself into the ground? Pick one area (sleep, movement, nutrition) and commit to improving it this week.
Check your scoreboard. Stop measuring success purely by production numbers. What does success look like in your relationships, your health, your peace of mind?
Find your people. Surround yourself with others who care about more than just the sale. We do business with people like us. Make sure the “us” you’re building includes people who actually give a damn about your wellbeing.
The work we do at Complete Game Consulting isn’t just about growing your book of business. It’s about building a life you actually want to live while you’re growing it.
You don’t have to choose between success and health. Between revenue and relationships. Between achievement and peace of mind.
You just need a different approach.

Business is no longer about who you know. Business is about who knows you. In a noisy industry like we’re in gang, you got to get people to know who you are.
