Your Prospecting Strategy Is Broken

I spent years grinding out cold calls and emails like it was my job. Well, it was my job. But man, I hated it.

Sitting at my desk, dialing number after number, sending email after email into the void. Most days, I got crickets.

I was hitting my numbers; making the calls, checking the boxes. But deep down, I knew there had to be a better way.

That’s when I stumbled into what I now call the Attention Blueprint.

The Shift That Changed Everything

Around 2015, I started asking myself three questions:

How do I want the market to talk about me? Who do I actually want to work with? What message do I need to put out there to attract those people?

I didn’t have all the answers. But I knew cold prospecting wasn’t going to get me where I wanted to go.

What Changed

When I sat down to prospect, I was no longer asking myself, “Did I make 50 calls today?”

I was asking, “Am I connecting with my prospects on LinkedIn? Am I posting content they find relevant? Am I speaking at events where my ideal clients hang out? Am I writing email campaigns that actually resonate?”

Prospecting became about creating content. Building presence. Teaching people what they needed to know before we ever spoke.

It took 4 to 5 years to really build it out. But once it clicked, the universe showed up.

Prospects started reaching out to me on LinkedIn, asking for help. I’d get emails saying, “We’d love to meet with you.” I was speaking at events and getting attention from Fortune 500 companies.

All while I was still just a producer at an independent agency in Longmont, Colorado.

The Channels

I went all in.

Social media. Email. Webinars. Speaking. Podcasting.

Did I still pick up the phone? Sure.

Did I still send cold emails? Absolutely.

But those calls and emails weren’t cold anymore. People already knew who I was. And that made everything more effective.

As an introvert, that was a game-changer. I could bring people to me.

What You Need to Do

If you’re still relying solely on cold calls and cold emails, it’s not going to work the way it used to.

Build your Attention Blueprint around three pillars:

Your brand. How do you want the market talking about you?

Your ideal client profile. Who do you actually want to work with?

Your message. What are you putting out there to grab their attention?

Then, pick your channels. Maybe it’s LinkedIn and email. Maybe it’s webinars and speaking. Maybe it’s podcasting.

You don’t have to do all of them. But you do have to do something other than dial for dollars and hope for the best.

This will change your career in ways you can’t imagine.

Not overnight.

But it will.

We’re here if you need help building it out.
